After recommending Dust and Shadow and The Gods of Gotham, you probably thought I had run out of police procedurals set in the Victorian era. But of course where there’s a will, there’s a way and I’ve found a new series to love.

The Yard by Alex Grecian is set a few months after the Ripper murders, when the populous of London had a hard time trusting their newly minted police force. The story follows the murder detectives as they struggle to solve crimes without modern forensic techniques or the public’s trust.

I’ve only just started reading the second book, The Black Country, but I highly recommend Grecian’s books!
