Remember when I blathered on about Deborah Harkness last month? Well the last book in her trilogy is FINALLY out and it is a great conclusion to the story.
This book filled in the missing details from the first two books. We get to learn more about Matthew’s past, the good and the bad. I was happy to see that Matthew shared more of his world with Diana and to see them grow closer together.
Because this book was very character driven, I quickly realized that it was missing some of the things that had hooked me in the past. In the first book, I loved hearing about Diana’s work and “walking” around Oxford and Salem. In the second book, meeting familiar historical figures was so much fun and sent me on a wild goose chase trying to read up on everyone mentioned. The Book of Life tied together the plot threads started in the first two books but didn’t have the same visceral pull for me.
That being said, I loved finishing Matthew and Diana’s story. I highly recommend the series to anyone — especially those who liked The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, The River of No Return or The Bookman’s Tale.
