Seeing what makes Sherlock tick is a thrill for the psychology lovers among us, but the lovable Mary Russell is what makes this book shine.

For the teen boy who swears he hates reading:

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

War, steampunk and an alternate history: what could be more fun?! I always recommend this for boys because it’s an easy entrance into Westerfeld’s work. He has plenty of other books for teens to choose from once they’ve finished this one.

or The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

I’ve already gushed about Maggie Stiefvater here and here, but I couldn’t help but include this book as a pick for reluctant readers. Though the narrator of The Scorpio Races is female, the story is very much universal.
