This is Where It Ends by Marieke Nijkamp
Rating: 3/5
Method Read: Hardcover
A heartbreaking, tragic and all too believable novel that takes place in the hour after a shooter enters a high school. The story is told from multiple perspectives, including students inside the school and others who are at home conversing only on Twitter. The perspectives allow for a more believable view of the tragedy, though at times it is difficult to figure out how the stories fit together.
This is Where It Ends starts a conversation about gun violence, mental illness, and the ways that high school could better accommodate students. It’s accessible style makes it perfect for getting at issues that teens are reluctant to discuss. I hope to discuss it with my teen book clubs soon!
On January 16-17 I participated in the 24 in 48 readathon. The next few reviews will be from books I read during that time.
