The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Though I’ve covered this in a previous post, it’s worth mentioning again because of its unique position as one of the few realistic YA fiction crime novels. The story follows a group of gifted teens as they train to enhance their abilities and solve crimes.

  The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes

Disturbing in the best way, Beukes book is about a serial killer who cam travel through time. I reviewed it here but in short:  It’s just as creepy as it sounds and perfect for a cozy night in!

or Gods of Gotham by Lyndsay Faye

This book is less psychological and more historical but it’s no less thrilling! Gods of Gotham tells the a young bartender who finds himself as a member of the newly minted New York Police Department. The mystery is compelling but, more importantly, the characters are relatable.
