“Orange you glad?” Skirt: My first Cali Fabrics Post

I’m pleased to announce that I am a blogger for the newly launched Cali Fabrics sewing and fabric blog!

For my first Cali Fabrics project, I chose a gorgeous orange embroidered eyelet. I immediately gravitated toward this fabric because of its gorgeous color, but once I received it, I became even more enamored with its overall design. I like that the eyelet openings are relatively small, meaning that I didn’t have to worry as much about underlining. Plus, the embroidery ensures that the design is visually interesting!

Check out the rest of my first post over on the Cali Fabrics Blog.

McCalls 6696: The Heavily Modified Version

For my third version of McCalls 6696 I really went rogue! The finished product only slightly resembles the original pattern, but I am pretty happy with it.I was inspired by Idle Fancy’s 6696 with a circle skirt. McCalls 6696: The Review

I think I have found my second TNT (tried and true) pattern for spring/summer! After my Colfax dresses went so well, I was more confident with trying a new pattern. I have fallen in love with shirtdresses after watching endless episodes of Call the Midwife, so I thought McCall’s 6696 would be a good choice!

McCall’s 6696 is a shirtdress with a separate button band, collar and collar stand, and buttons. It is a very versatile pattern with many modifications included!

Over the next week I will be sharing each of my makes, but for today here is my overall review of the pattern:

Me Made May: Weeks 1 & 2

May is the month in which makers across the world pledge to wear their makes and sometimes make more! It was started by So Zoe as an effort to wear more me-makes and to figure out what isn’t getting worn. If you want more information, check out this post.

Since I don’t have that many me-makes yet, I didn’t pledge to wear a me-made item every day. Here’s my Me-Made May Pledge:

I, Alexandra of The Library of Alexandra (alexandrampatterson.com) and @alexandrap529 on Insta, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’16. I endeavor to make 1 garment a week, finally clear out my UFO pile and wear all of my spring/summer me-made garments as much as possible for the duration of May 2016′
